The chemistry between us

When I was a younger man – let’s say a fair few years ago – a good weekend with friends would mean beers, dancing, laughing and partaking of some kind of illegal substance.

I’m not saying I was a drug fiend, or even an addict, but we did always like it when someone would turn up with a bit of speed, some ecstasy or a bit of dancing powder. Writing this down makes it sound far worse than it was, but actually, we were just kids having fun, enjoying our downtime.

We all worked pretty hard – most of us were saving like crazy, doing two or three jobs, to make sure we had enough money to go travelling for a while – and we all liked to party pretty hard too. Being together, high, drunk, whatever – loving the music, dancing like fools and chasing tail – was the best release from our McJobs that we knew.

We’d go to gigs and not remember who we’d seen. We’d do the ‘silent witness’ thing the following morning, pulling the sheet back to see who we’d slept with. We’d laugh and laugh and laugh at each other’s disasters.

Times haven’t changed so much. I still love a good night on the town – the buzz from dancing, drinking with friends, laughing and staying out all night has never really left me. I don’t do the drugs these days, but I still like to have a good time.

Whereas, back in the day, I’d be sure that we had all the cheap booze and chemistry in place for a good weekend, these days it’s more about making sure there’s champagne in the chiller and a good restaurant booked to start the night properly.

We used to be sorted for E’s and whizz.

These days, I’m still sorted.

Sorted for cheese and fizz.

Needs change... but the need for a great time at the weekends never does.

Just back from a week in the Lakes away from computers and the net and spent a good long time catching up with your week, some great posts as always.

I agree with you 100%. It's actually one of the things I like best about getting (sigh) older. I have fond memories of my wild years, but I've happily left them behind.

Isnt it nice not to have to be whizzing.
Mothers day yesterday - we all decanted to Llangorse, spen a day in the sun, reading drinking good wine and a great picnic the girls had out together. we chatted and walked the dog and slept a little too. It was a great family chill out -and no crowds

Aah, the memories of the old wild days. Once in a while it's good to think of all the fun, but I'm happier now, or perhaps perfectly content is a better description.

I was 'judged' by a fellow blogger because I posted about my cocaine days. Sheesh!

There were 3 of us bloggers having lunch and we were talking about age and I said I always thought I was still 22. She turned to me and asked if that was when I was doing cocaine - because she had 'heard' that people remain the same age mentally that they were when they started doing drugs.

Just last week I was catching up on past Boston Legals and lo and behold didn't the actor say exactly the same thing.

So dear heart - what 'age' are you then?

Anonyme a dit…

wow. that sounded so... nostalgic.

hehe if i'm 16, how many years older are you then?

would it be rude of me to guess 26/27? x

Rob, the wild days are still with us, trust me...they're just less wild...

Lane, she dislikes both - luckily my cousin and aunt are coming too and they like anything!

Lewis. You gorgeous boy. Well done you for that...

Aims, that'd make me about 19 years old. Lord help me.

Poser, you flatter me too much. I'm taking a deep breath and telling you that I'm forty this year. Jeez.

CB - I never said that...

Hey I left a comment here this morning! And now's gone :-( I was basically calling you an old fart hehe

Anonyme a dit…

I hear ya. Although I always liked cheese and fizz. I just gradually cut ot the other stuff. The difference must be in better quality cheese I guess. :)

Big C, you left that comment on a different post...must be age, eh?

12oti, yeah, discovering a higher quality of Brie has saved many a junkie, he he....

try not to choke on the delicious irony please :-)

Oh Conortje, I giggled a lot. A real lot.

So true. I find when faced with two options for the evening, I ask myself which one will have me home in bed first. Sigh.

travelling, but not in love a dit…

Torny, I must admit to alco occasionally choosing the option that gets me into bed the quickest - but it does depend who I'm getting into bed with....he he
