United colours of hangover

In the last 24 hours I've had text messages from four friends in three countries, all complaining of Sunday morning hangovers.

First to arrive was the Australian contingent. It seems Sydney on a Saturday can do as much damage as ever. That said, if you have to do the walk of shame, then you may as well do it in style - and crossing the Sydney Harbour Bridge in last night's clothes is pretty classy. For an Australian.

Amsterdam delivered a night of rock karaoke, and a level of alcohol appropriate for someone who got up on stage and sang 'School's Out'....

God bless London, bringing as it did for my Southern Softy friend an evening of genteel conversation at a dinner party that lasted into the wee small hours. A classy dinner party that apparently involved tequila slammers in the host's kitchen at 3am.

Finally, to Antwerp where a family wedding for my Belgian colleague turned into an all night affair. Apparently the soiree ended with some amazing weed in the bridesmaid's room. You couldn't make it up. My colleague wishes he had - I think waking up chez the bridesmaid wasn't what he had in mind....

As for me, well it was my first Saturday night in Birmingham for a while. I hit a couple of bars with some friends and then went on to a club. I arrived at the club with two friends. I'm not saying who I left with.

Suffice to say, every one of us thinks we suffered the most.

Hangovers used to just pass me by when I was a youth. With each passing year the hangover gets worse and worse. This morning I woke up with a head that felt like it had been used by the Ukrainian basketball team for hoop practice. My body ached all over and my mouth felt like I'd been chewing on a cigar in my sleep. Luckily I didn't have far to walk home ;-)

Having spent the morning watching the BBC coverage of the Olympics I'm starting to feel a little more human.

How was it for you?

I'm sure I would be oh-so-boring in your world! I woke up tired because I stayed up too late playing a cool board game last night with my guests. (Ticket to Ride.) I've had 2 hangovers in my life (which was a VERY long time ago). That's not my thing. But I AM amused reading about it on this blog!

Let today be restful and quiet!

I must plainly admit to being a lightweight when it comes to drinking. One usually does it pretty good for me. But yesterday, we had a block party and I started with a gin and tonic around 2pm, a beer at 4, pina colada around 6, daquiri at 7, and another gin and tonic at 8. Now, where's the bridge to walk across.....

Hangovers, never have them, I stop when I feel the light head coming on.
I hate not to be in control , ok I admit it,and someone has to sort out the bodies at home time

VM, such good news, eh? we have a new princess of wales!

Daryl, sounds like just the kind of evening I need! I'm so jealous.

Had I your phone number yesterday morning I think I would have texted my claim for most hungover boy down the road.

Glad everyone seemed to have a fantastic weekend! That's what they're there for, though :-)

I wonder if I should worry that I actually don't get hangovers any more. It's not from stopping drinking. Perhaps it's from too much!

I count four countries. I escaped hangover Sunday although I had one on Saturday morning, does that count?

unless you are making some political statement about how Flanders should be part of NL :-)

Manuel a dit…

sunday was my second hangover this year, I don't drink a lot, and it was surprisingly okay......coffee and muffins took the pain away......

wine, whiskey and champagne put the pain there though.....

Alan, what were you up to? Were you and your manly thighs doing drunken disco dancing? I hope so.

travelling, but not in love a dit…

Amanda, you're very lucky. Although I do find staying drunk is the best way to keep hangovers at bay!

Conortje, no-one likes a clever clogs you know. Ok, so it;s four countries.

I'm sure the Flemish liberation front would be happy to join forces if that meant they could ditch the Wallons. But that would mean that the Wallons become French, so I'd vote against that.

Sorry Belgium, nobody wants you. ha ha.

Manuel. Coffee and muffins can numb all sorts of pain, I find.

Although the wine, whiskey and champagne sound like they may numb pain even better....

I hardly drink - and never to the extreme anymore. After working in a bar for 10+ years...I just don't need to.

Besides - my memory is bad enough without adding the booze!

Withholding names now TBNIL - you're such a tease!

Hi Aims, I guess 10 years behind a bar, seeing the affects of alcohol, would be enough to put anyone off drinking!

No hampsters this weekend then? :-((

Swearing Mother a dit…

Had a fab weekend with the family, including many, many bottles of wine and a brilliant Indian meal at Mother India in Boldmere.

You probably know the place.

Yesterday went out to Brum shopping with my son and treated him to a couple of things (skint student) and had a long leisurely lunch avec vin rouge and a good chat, just the two of us.

I really loved that. Out on the town with my boy. Brilliant.

Quickroute - no, no hamsters. thankfully. No gerbils either...

Sweary, that sounds great. There's a special bond between son and mother (especially when mom buys clothes for sosn and likes a glass of red at lunchtime!).

No hangover, no booze even because we still had to drive back, but not much sleep either. I did spend 'hangover time' in a lovely cool lake in France, which was good. And Saturday involved a big fireworks display in Geneva.

marjolein - sounds like a great time was had by all...!
