Karaoke killers

Pulled up at my mother's house last night to the sounds of some dreadful party. At least I thought it was a party.

It turns out that her neighbours were singing karaoke in their front room, and they had their windows open - in a bid to share the love with the whole street.

Now, each to their own, but these neighbours are a married couple in their late fifties who look fairly unassuming and not the sort you'd imagine to be belting out disco classics off-key on a wednesday night.

That said, there's always been something not quite right about them. They're friendly enough, but I wouldn't leave them my house keys while I went on holiday - if you see what I mean.

Anyway, as I walk up my mom's driveway I can see the neighbour stood in front of the TV, microphone in hand, and she's belting out 'Dance yourself dizzy' and missing every other note.

I rang the bell and my mother answered the door.

"I see that Captain and Tennille are in residence again" she said. "Come in, the kettle's on".

Showing your age there mister - I had to look them up :-)
I love how you neglect to write that you popped in later that evening to belt out a rendition of I will survive!

Cheek. More like my Mother showing her age! and I bet you have their greatest hits on your fancy ipod.

I didn't do I will survive - I sang 'yes sir, I can boogie' ... it's my singing in the shower special!

I am SO lucky everyone knows I am totally tone deaf .. cannot carry a tune in a bucket ... but I am a great audience ;-}

And Daryl, you'd add a touch of glamour to any act. I bet there are many crooners who'd take you on as a doo-wop girl....

Muscrat Love? Love Will Keep Us Together? Which one was it??

Lewis, well done you for knowing C&T song titles. But then, I knew you would....

When people are younger, how do they miss things like this and therefore know to not EVER do it when they get older? Let's age with dignity, people! Nothing wrong with a little fun, but come on, I don't want everyone around me making fun of me because I'm "a little off." They can make fun of me for other things, but I for one do not intentionally intend to bring in on.

(Note to self: Scratch that karaoke machine off my wish list... SOOOOOO just kidding! I refused to do it at one party because I can't sing.)

You never know what goes on behind closed doors do you - but with the windows open? That's gross:-)

Glad you're a book writing btw!

Louise, I'm all for aging with dignity...and with a little room for playing up every so often!

Lane...indeed...if they'd only just closed the windows..!

And what's wrong with fifty-somethings letting rip with a bit of harmless karaoke??

My personal favourite is either Filthy Gorgeous from the Scissor Sisters or I Love The Way You Move from the Body Rockers. Good for a bit of cavorting around the lounge, with the curtains shut of course.

Keeps the old joints from stiffening up, I find.

I only sing in the shower or in the car. And - The Man grimaces every time I do....sigh.

As for C & T? So right up there with Barry Manilow aren't they?

Sweary, do you live next door to my parents, perchance?

Aims, I love CARaoke. I'm a big singing in the car fan...

Alan, Conortje claims he doesn't. But he makes many claims that he can't substantiate.

I know the song, you know the song, everyone but himself knows the song. That's what happens when you grow up in Tralee.

Well from the look of them I'm pretty relieved I don't know it..

Its all cafe quarter and wine now.
I nearly cremated a hamster , thought it was dead,it was hibernating. I was going to put it on the fire, we had coal central heating then, but I neede to stoke it up a bit.I left Hammy wrapped in foil on the hearth. Lucky for him, the heat revived him he squeaked and ran off ==== pheww
